Democracy is defined as;
“Government by the people; a form of government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised directly by them or by their elected agents under a free electoral system.” – Dictionary.com
Democracy is widely accepted as the most liberal form of governance, offering freedom for the masses and a better life for all.
Compared to Fascism, Socialism or Communism, there is no doubt that Democracy is superior, especially in practice.
History shows us that.
The issue is that many people feel that Democracy no longer works.
Media outlets, whether left or right inclined don’t talk about this. This is the real issue, because the 1% benefit greatly from the current system.
Regardless of your political outlook, it’s hard to argue that things are fair.
There are so many reasons for this, but lasting change can only come through changes to our laws.
Democracy in its current form (representative democracy) has allowed the conditions of ‘unfairness’ to occur. Therefore it is only logical to conclude that Representative Democracy is bad.
As I said before, the media don’t talk about this. So in all likelihood this could be the first time that some of you reading this has ever heard the term Representative Democracy.
In reality there are numerous forms of Democracy and not all are created equal.
Just like we know Fascism is bad, some forms of Democracy are equally bad and there is a growing amount of evidence to suggest that Representative Democracy is a bad thing.
In fact, so many of us despise and distrust politicians that it’s amazing we still choose to elect representatives to make decisions on our behalf.
A possible alternative Democracy would be a Direct Democracy where citizens themselves decide on policy directly.
So instead of voting on elections, we would see people vote on topics like abortion, minimum wage and everything else…
Of course it wouldn’t be perfect, but the idea of entertaining another form of Democracy is surely worthy of discussion.
